About the Wimmera Health Care Group
Wimmera Health
Care Group is the major specialist referral centre for the Wimmera region,
covering 30,000 square kilometres, servicing a population of approximately
50,000 people. The Health Care Group provides emergency and critical care
services for adults and children throughout the region.
The
Health Care Group has voluntarily met or exceeded the stringent patient care
standards for competence, staffing, facilities and equipment set by the Australian
Council on Healthcare Standards and has been continually accredited since
1975. The Health Care Group plays an important role in the education and training
of health professionals. The hospital is recognised by universities and medical
and nursing bodies as a training and teaching centre for undergraduate and
postgraduate studies.
This alone is a tangible indicator of the efficiency and effectiveness of
how the Health Care Group is run. It is also testimony to the dedication and
commitment of staff and Board members who contribute to the Health Care Group's
endeavours to maintain and improve the quality of health care services.
Located in the City of Horsham, Victoria, Australia midway between Melbourne and Adelaide on the main rail and road works linking Victoria with South Australia. Horsham is the capital of the Wimmera sub-region and is well known as a productive and efficient rural region.
To the east of Horsham is the Grampians National Park - a massive sandstone range. This is where you can discover spectacular waterfalls and rock formations, native fauna such as koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, emus, echidnas and reptiles. Flora such as banksias, orchids, thryptomene, heaths and ferns provide nectar for the many species of birdlife. Throughout the Grampians, Koori culture is evident. The rock art sites are a pictorial record of the area's original inhabitants.
A must for all visitors to Horsham rural city is a trip to Mount Arapiles, Tooan State Park, where climbers from all over the world visit the mountain which has several thousand climbs, some of which are the hardest in the world. This area is the home and playground of world renowned mountaineers and adventurers Brigitte and Jon Muir.
