Born in the true spirit of the pioneers

The Wimmera's health care story began in the Carriers Arms Hotel Horsham, on 10th September 1873. A public meeting agreed to ask for a donation of five acres of land, and letters went off to the surrounding stations seeking money. A year later, a committee and trustees were elected and the Hospital opened with 12 beds, a medical officer, a nurse and a wardsman. The growing demand for additional facilities has continued to our present day.

And the spirit lives on

The Wimmera Base Hospital Foundation was established to provide a growing financial independence for the Hospital, ensuring the people of the Wimmera continue to receive a high level of health care. An inaugural Board of Trustees was formed to manage the Foundation and set its goals. The Foundation Trustees provide the necessary expertise and judgment needed to wisely manage contributions, delivering maximum returns to the community.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way

Making a will is something many find difficult to do. They put it off, sometimes until it is too late.
Making a will now can give you peace of mind that your affairs are taken care of and your intentions for your estate are clear. Many people, having made provision for their families, decide to support charities by leaving a bequest in their will. You can make a bequest in your name, or the name of a loved one. The capital will be invested and the annual interest distributed, at the discretion of the Wimmera Base Hospital Foundation Trustees.

About Wimmera Health Care Group

The Wimmera Health Care Group covers 31,000 square kilometres and services a population of approximately 54,000 people. The Group provides emergency and critical care services for adults and children and treats around 9,000 inpatients, and 100,000 outpatients per annum. Wimmera Health Care Group has met or exceeded the stringent patient care standards for competence, staffing, facilities and equipment, set by The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards and has been continuously accredited since 1975.

About the Foundation

The Wimmera Base Hospital Foundation raises money through donations and bequests to improve health care for the people of the Wimmera. Funds raised by the Foundation do not affect the Hospital’s annual government budget allocations. Every cent donated or bequeathed is of additional benefit.
As a charitable trust, the Foundation manages funds for maximum return and security in accordance with the Trustees Act 1958. Donations over $2.00 are tax deductible.
