Service Description / Overview
The Anticoagulation Service at the Wimmera Health Care Group is offered in partnership with the West Vic Division of General Practice and is available to people taking Warfarin, an oral anticoagulant medication. Although this medication is a life saving therapy it is known to interact with many other medications including over the counter drugs and herbal preparations as well as a number of common foods. Additionally, the level of anticoagulation needs to be monitored by regular blood testing and Warfarin dose adjustments by the patient's doctor are often required.
The service at the Wimmera Health Care Group is staffed by a nurse specially trained in anticoagulation, a pharmacist and a dietitian all of whom will provide education and support to people taking Warfarin
