Wimmera Health Care Group held its 2015 Annual General Meeting at the Grains Innovation Park on Thursday, November 12.

Wimmera Health Care Group chief executive Chris Scott welcomed 107 guests to the event which saw the Annual Report and Quality of Care Report released and a guest speaker and staff member give presentations.

Board of Management President Mark Williams presented the report of operations and financial statements at the AGM and spoke of the overwhelming support received from the community for the Wimmera Cancer Centre fundraising appeal and the importance of the collaborative work being undertaken by the Wimmera Southern-Mallee Health Alliance.

Mr Williams said the presentation from guest speaker Professor Joseph Ibrahim on dementia in rural and regional settings was a highlight of the evening.

“The presentation was engaging, thoughtful and very relevant to our community,” Mr Williams said.

“Professor Ibrahim has an association with the Wimmera and truly understands some of the challenges faced by people living with dementia in our region and his presentation was thought provoking about how we will treat this condition in the future.”

Mr Williams also commended Wimmera Health Care Group’s infection control co-ordinator Jan Spencer on her presentation about the department’s work. The infection control team were presented with a certificate of appreciation for their efforts reaching high standards of flu vaccination across the organisation.

A special presentation was made to ACE Radio for the Rachael’s Wish Fundraising Telethon held in August which raised more than $126,000 for the Wimmera Cancer Centre. Several ACE Radio members were at the meeting to accept the certificate and radio announcer Emma Elsom said the staff were proud to be involved in the event.

Mr Scott said he received wonderful feedback about the presentations and also the organisation’s successful operating year.

“After the meeting guests enjoyed supper and continued discussions about the presentations,” Mr Scott said.

“We appreciate the effort of both Professor Ibrahim and Mrs Spencer and also appreciate the support of all members of the public who attended the meeting.”
