Caring for the Wimmera and Southern Mallee Region of Victoria

A generous pledge from a neighbouring Wimmera health service has bolstered the Wimmera Cancer Centre appeal.

Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital which services the Edenhope and District communities, has donated $35,000 to the appeal.

EDMH Board of Management chair Ron Hawkins said he was very pleased that his organisation is able to provide support.

“The Wimmera Cancer Centre is a very important project for the region and for our community,” Mr Hawkins said.

“Too frequently in our area another resident is diagnosed with some form of cancer so that’s way too many people having to travel to Ballarat or further.

“EDMH support of this project is in line with our hospitals approach to regional health.”

Wimmera Health Care Group Board of Management president Mark Williams said the contribution was extremely generous and would greatly assist the fundraising efforts of reaching a minimum target of $1 million.

“Edenhope Hospital’s donation is a wonderful contribution to this region wide cause and is proof of the strong relationship health organisations across the Wimmera have,” Mr Williams said.

Wimmera Health Care Group Board of Management member and Wimmera Cancer Centre Project Steering Committee chair Richard Goudie said the project had received support from across the entire region as it will be a service that affects everyone.

“The Wimmera Cancer Centre will service the entire Wimmera and Southern-Mallee so it is wonderful to have this kind of support to ensure the communities have access to the best health care services available.”
