Wimmera residents are warned not to hand over funds or personal information to callers claiming to be from the Wimmera Health Care Group asking for donations.

Public relations co-ordinator Amelia Crafter said it had come to their attention that a local business had been contacted and a man claiming to be from ‘Wimmera Base Hospital’ asked for a $500 donation to the Wimmera Cancer Centre.
“Firstly, we want to ensure people are aware that we would never cold call an individual or a business and ask for a donation,” Mrs Crafter said.
“Secondly, we apologise if anyone has had these calls. It is extremely unfortunate and disappointing that someone would abuse the good will and support this community has shown to our fundraising efforts in undertaking this scam.”
Wimmera Health Care Group acting chief executive Mark Knights said the incident was being taken very seriously and Victoria Police have been notified.
Mr Knights said if someone does receive a call they should not provide any personal or financial details and they should contact the Horsham Police Station on 5382 9200.
“If anyone is concerned about contact from the Wimmera Health Care Group in relation to fundraising activities they can contact Mrs Crafter on 5381 9309 to verify information,” Mr Knights said.
